Hood itself seems to work ok. I've not used it but twice. Dissatisfied that out of the box the vent filters were dented (GE did replace them). And there are two cosmetic issues found, but it was past the deadline to report.

Love the looks and the operation, but trying to replace the bulbs is a challenge. The biggest problem is the lights get so hot that it bakes the plastic hardware that holds the light socket, causing it to become brittle, and so it breaks when you apply pressure to remove the bulbs. After replacing said hardware, and removing covers to squeeze my hand inside to keep it from breaking, finally decided it was just not worth the trouble.

Overall a great product for the price. I will warn however, that the structure is not very solid. Ours is mounted under a cabinet; via 4 screws. The item is not heavy so four small screws does the trick unfortunately, when looking at it straight on, it does look slightly twisted as if it's not flat with the bottom of the cabinet. I attribute this to thin gauge steel used to assemble it. A very minor issue in my opinion. I would recommend this product

It is a nice looking piece but if you ever need to change the light bulbs in the hood you may as well change out the whole hood which is easier than changing the bulbs. The lighting design is junk Both bulb sockets broke while trying to change the 25 dollar bulbs.

This appliance looks nice. I like the lights on it. However, it doesn't seem like the fan pulls up the steam as well as it should. When cooking on the front right burner, the steam seems to just roll right over the hood instead of getting sucked in through the filter. I can feel air coming through the top vents, but the steam isn't getting sucked into the fan for some reason. The filters are clean and free of obstructions.

It was a fairly easy install. We had to go from a 4" round vent and exhaust through an 8" wall to a rectangular vent and exhaust, and be able to cover the 4" exterior exit. So that took a little shopping to find the correct range hood exhaust vent cover, but the installation instructions can be viewed ahead of time on the GE website, and this really aided in finding that cover.
After that we ordered this GE range hood and it was installed in less than an hour. The design is exactly what we were looking for and the slate color is just amazing!
Wish the remote wasn't optional. Although you don't really need it. If you hold the off button (this is noted on the front), for 3 seconds, the system will shut off after 15 minutes all by itself. The lights that come with it are halogen and the do get very HOT so be careful.

When I installed it I had to remove the fan and reinstall it properly. Came from the factory without the pinch nut properly tightened so the fan was making contact with the hood. Fixed easily anough, but that's just terrible. But wait, it gets better... You can install this in three different ways, basically vented or unvented (my application. The latter of which uses a charcoal filter. The filter DOES NOT come with the unit, you have to purchase it seperately. That information is not made known anywhere in the information available to a prospective buyer. BUT IT GETS BETTER. If you go to their website the filter is out of stock and, according to other reviews posted there has been out of stock for a very long time. About 2/3 weeks ago I emailed GE and asked if there was any alternative. They have not bothered to respond. Do yourself a favor - dont buy this hood.

The hood was very easy to install In place of the 25 year old on that I took out. Looks nice. The function buttons are a little hard to read but once you figure them out they are very easy to use. The lights work good and should stay cleaner than our old one. It has a super high speed that work well when you first light the burners but it is out of balance so it vibrates quite a bit but it quite and smooth on medium and has plenty of suction for normal use.
